About us

hoWme is a woman-led design studio creating distinctive objects for contemporary interiors.

At its heart is Poonam Mukherjee - a self-taught artist, lifelong maker and the creative force behind Howme.

Poonam has always been drawn to experimentation. Her work rarely begins with a fixed category or convention. Instead, it might begin with a material that catches her eye, an old object discovered while travelling, a traditional art form, an unusual texture, or simply the question: what could this become?

Her instinct is to bring different worlds together — wood with metal, old with new, Indian artistic traditions with global techniques, found objects with contemporary forms. She experiments, combines and reimagines until something new emerges.

It was this creative practice, initially pursued from her home, that became hoWme.

What began with pieces made for friends and family gradually travelled through word of mouth, exhibitions and commissions. As more people responded to Poonam's work, a personal creative practice began to take the shape of a design studio.

Today, that spirit of experimentation remains at the centre of hoWme.

Our point of view

We don’t believe creativity needs to stay neatly within categories.

India gives us an extraordinary landscape of materials, craft traditions, objects and visual references to explore. We draw from these freely, while remaining open to ideas and techniques from around the world.

A regional art form might appear on an unexpected surface. An antique might inspire something entirely new. Wood, metal, jute, terracotta and found materials may be combined, painted, distressed, burned, layered or reworked.

The result is an evolving collection of objects shaped by different influences, yet made for contemporary spaces.

We believe experimentation creates originality, tradition can be a starting point, and materials should retain their texture, imperfections and character. Above all, we want to create objects that outlive trends and homes that feel collected rather than catalogued.

The family behind the studio

hoWme began with Poonam’s creative practice and has grown into a family-built business.

As Founder & Creative Director, Poonam Mukherjee leads the creative and product vision. Disha Mukherjee, Brand & Growth Lead, shapes how that vision becomes a brand — across positioning, experience, partnerships and new markets. Joydeb Mukherjee, Business Lead, anchors the commercial and operational side of hoWme.

We bring different perspectives, but share one ambition: to build an Indian design house with a point of view of its own.

Made differently

We work in small batches, giving us the freedom to experiment with material, colour, finish, form and technique rather than design to a fixed formula.

Selected pieces can be customised in colour, finish, scale and material, and we collaborate with homeowners, interior designers, architects, hospitality spaces, retailers and visual merchandisers on pieces for particular spaces and projects.

Visit the studio

Our Gurugram studio is where ideas take shape — a working space filled with materials, experiments, works in progress and finished pieces.

We welcome homeowners and design professionals to experience our collections in person, discover the details and textures of each piece, and explore customisations or commissions shaped around their spaces.
